Vintage Thingies 37 - JAJ Casseroles

It is suddenly Thursday again and time to show and tell about our vintage treasures. This week I have something really special to show: it is not from my family. I just bought these two oven proof glass casseroles yesterday from a flea market. I liked the shape and size of them, and they were in flawless condition.

They nest nicely, so there will not be too much storage problems.

The vegetable pictures are different, this is from the smaller bowl.

And this is the bigger one.

I expected to see the Pyrex stamp on the bottom, but there were the initials JAJ, a crown, and Made in England instead. After some Google work I found out that this simply means Pyrex made in England. The plant in Sunderland was closed in 2007 so my casseroles may become very valuable collector's items! I paid 1 € for them, a little more than 1 US $ and less than 1 UK £ . The seller said they were his mother's from the late 1960's.

By the way, if you want to see more details of my last week's towel rack cover, see this post.
Now hop back to Suzanne to see what the other Vintage Thingies Thursday blogs are showing today!

  3. I thought Pyrex when I saw them. What a fantastic bargain!!! Antique shops here are selling vintage pyrex for an arm and a leg.

  4. I don't think pyrex used that type of design here. All the designs I have seen are very stylized and usually one color.

  17. I thought Pyrex was only made in America:Live and learn. Leave it to the English to have better graphics on the sides. I like these better than any I've seen on American Pyrex.

    Very nice!

  18. I forgot to say in yesterday's post that I think the organ grinders were amazing. You never see anything like that here.

And I can just imagine you finding those dishes at the flea market and thinking.."oh.. these will be perfect for showing on Vintage Thingies Thursday"! :-) I know.

  19. The bowls look great! Nice find for you. I notice you are in Finland. I am half Finnish on my mother's side. All of the great-grandparents on that side were born in Finland. We still have relatives somewhere in Finland. I am not sure where exactly. Hope you had a great Thursday!

  20. Oh my those are pretty. What a find! I haven't seen that particular design before even though they are English. You might be lucky and find clear glass lids of the right size which they would've had originally. I hope so.

Thanks for passing on the bird message to Eileen.
