Antique Fair and end of knitting tour

Last weekend was the annual Antique Fair in our village. Well, they have started calling it antique, vintage and retro, as much of the stuff was far from being antique.

The birch bark shoes on the table look brand new but the technique is old and the shoes are probably only used for interior decoration.

Some fishing gear from the 60's, glass fibre rods and modern reels.

Glass from the 50's to 70's is a popular theme among collectors. It looks like people are looking for things they used to have in their childhood home.

Old copper pots and pans, washboards for mother and daughter.

By the end of the Tour de France cycling race I finished the lace socks in this upside down picture,

and a pair in the bubble pattern in yellow and green.

A baby thrush was "hiding" on the lawn and only moved after I had taken this picture. The future berry thief looked quite endearing!

A Hot Summer Day

Last Saturday we visited the annual Antique Market here in the village. It was a hot, cloudless day.

Vendors from near and far had arrived with their treasures.

Some of the junk was old enough to be called antique.

Most of it was just stuff from the attic.

Some of the glass was collector's items by famous Finnish designers from the 1950's.

But most of these household enamel and plastic bowls and pots are about 20 years younger, something I bought for my kitchen. I felt antique!

These washboards, tubs and towel rack are much older but still something I have seen being used when I was little.

The clothespeg apron and old washing powder and soap packages from the Craft Museum are from the same era.

Back to the fair: live accordion music is essential for a Summer market event.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I try to get something crafty finished for my next post!

At the Antique Market

On Saturday we went to see the local Antique Market here in our village. Last year was our first visit; this new location near the shops was nicer. I noticed two little teddy bears sitting on a chair.

A sweet little sewing machine with original packing. Too bad I don't collect sewing machines, not even small ones.

Forks and knives and kitchen stuff.

Cups and saucers and glasses, really rather vintage than antique. Many people collect coffee cups, especially Finnish cups.

There were old copper coffee pots, at a reasonable price.

An embroidered towel rack curtain, to hide the kitchen towels from view.

This one is for you, Simone: half a stall filled with jugendstil embroideries. I think most of them were recently made after original patterns from the beginning of last century.

Another popular collectible, blue and white butter jars from last century, manufactured by Arabia, the  best known Finnish ceramics factory.

I found one pretty little jug, but the price was about six times the sum I was ready to pay. Luckily Mr. K. found a fly fishing rod at a bargain price.

Nothing handmade by me this time? Yes, there is. Yesterday Mr. K and I picked a small bucket full of sour cherries from a tree planted by birds, and I cooked 25 small jars of cherry jam. Yum, yum!
