Himmeli is made of rye straw for Christmas. It is a traditional Scandinavian ornament, and the name comes from the Swedish and German word Himmel meaning heaven or sky.
I have seen them made of plastic straws in bright colours but for me the original material is the only right one.
Just gorgeous !!
ReplyDeleteThe look gorgeous.

They are beautiful. I will have to put mine up again in the upper hallway. They do look so pretty in proper straw.
ReplyDeleteLove your LA quilt on your earlier post. Yes, "himmel" is a Norwegian word as well! The red painted Christmas china set is great. Hope you are fine after the op :-)
ReplyDeleteThey look complicated to make. Smaller ones would most definitely stand out hanging on a tree.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and delicate. Straw seems perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe ladies society at church made some for the Christmas bazaar one year. Mine lasted 25 years - with gentle handling. A beautiful thing.

Original is best. I love these!
